Mark Lancelott
I’ve spent thirty years working on the same fundamental question: how should organisations be designed for sustainable performance and long term viability in a changing world? Early in my career, I worked in tech and transformation at Barclays, before moving into consulting at PA. There I led the development and global roll-out of the Business Design methodology. Next, at Korn Ferry, I was Senior Client Partner and EMEA Lead for Sustainability Advisory. I now work independently through Better Business by Design, and for over a decade as Associate Faculty at Hult Ashridge.
Along the way I’ve co-authored The Operating Model Canvas, co-founded the Designing Operating Models executive programme at Ashridge and built partnerships with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the UN Global Compact, and Chapter Zero. My clients have ranged from global investment banks to deep-tech start-ups, FTSE 100 Engineering Group to Global Confectionary and Food Groups, Regulators to Premier League football clubs. My current research - Requisite Pace - explores how organisations can structurally match the rate of change in their environment. My academic background includes an MBA from Manchester Business School, and an BA and MA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University.
Current roles: Founder and Managing Director, Better Business by Design; Associate Faculty, Hult Ashridge (since 2013); Advisory, Ellen MacArthur Foundation; Fractional Chief Commercial Officer and Board Director, Aqua Catalysis; Investor in fifteen early-stage mission-led ventures; mentor at Zinc Ventures, Ambitious Impact, and University of Manchester Unit-M, helping founders building commercially viable businesses that contribute to a better world.
